International Translations Ltd – Company History

ITL is a group of companies, the oldest of which, Spargnapani Translations (later ITL Manchester), was established in 1919.

The Directors, Colin and Merula Smith, started their first translation company E. Billington Translation and Consultancy in 1974. This became Liverpool Translation Services Ltd in 1982. In the mid 1980′s, Colin and Merula acquired Spargnapani in Manchester, Ken Pull Associates in Rayleigh, Essex and a new branch was set up in Leicester.

At this point all the companies were brought under the “ITL” umbrella, comprising ITL Liverpool, ITL Manchester, ITL Leicester and ITL South.

In the early 1990’s a further two companies, Textfoil Ltd and Christine Wood Translations, were incorporated into ITL.

ITL is a long-standing member of the ATC (Association of Translation Companies), which has stringent entry requirements. Our director, Colin Smith, has served as chairman of the ATC several years running, and is still on the committee.

Colin and Merula are still at the helm of this highly successful company, combining their expertise and professionalism with a hands-on approach in respect to personal attention to each client.
